Tea Party Express Visit

What an exciting day! We had the opportunity to join up with the Tea Party Express as it made its stop in Green Bay today. While the weather wasn't exactly cooperative, we did see about 1,000 people out to support the efforts of this amazing grass-roots movement.

Mark Block, from Americans for Prosperity (fightbackwisconsin.com) and and Linda Hanson from Wisconsin Prosperity Network (www.wisconsinprosperitynetwork.com/) were there to kick things off.

Herman “The Terminator” Cain was also a speaker at the event. He had three things we need to remember, and I'd like to share them with you.

1.Stay connected—small groups connected to larger ones—all the way to Washington
2.Stay informed—know your facts and do your research
3.Stay inspired—visit some of the web sites listed on the side here, and know you're not alone

The Tea Party Express buses were about 30 minutes late, but the speakers and entertainment were so motivational and passionate about our great country and taking it back, it was worth it! We were treated to the following:

If you go online and do a search on any one of these people and their organizations, you will know you are not alone in the fight against the government. We need to stand together and support the right candidates, support the Constitution, support each other and get our friends and family to get off the couches and get involved.

I have to share this more personal note. My second-grade daughter came up to me and asked if she could do a “Book Talk” (book report) on “this little book.” I took one look and just smiled—she was holding the pocket-sized United States Constitution! What could I say? She'll be doing that for her talk on April 15.

Weekly Update 4/4/10

Hello everyone!  I hope you are getting out to vote and getting others to do the same.  I know it's an off-year, but we need to get people involved. 

I don't have much more of note this week.  I was, however, doing a little research on citizenship and found these inspiring quotes:

Many thanks for the phone calls and comments on our meeting.  It is wonderful to see so many people wanting to get involved in whatever way they can. 

I sent out invitations for our next meeting to the Kiel City Council Members, School Board Members, the mayor and our district and county representatives.  I'm hoping you can all come and bring a friend.

Our next meeting will be held April 22, 2010, at the Stoelting House, 309 Indian Hill, Kiel, WI 53042 from 6-8pm

First Meeting Follow-Up

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who was able to attend our first meeting.  We had a surprise guest with Senator Joe Leibham stopping in to share his thoughts and lend his experience.  Thank you Joe!

The overall concern seems to be that people, if unaware of what is going on, even at a local level, can be led.  This is too sadly true, and we, as citizens of this state, need to make a difference, starting when and where we can.  If this is a School Board meeting, a City Council meeting, a County Board meeting, it really doesn't matter, as long as we are involved.

We need to attend School Board meetings to make our concerns known, especially about the governmental mandates being handed to us regarding education and our children.  We can get involved in classroom monitoring, at any level, and volunteering our assistance where it is needed.

We need to attend City Council meetings.  We need to let the Council members know our concerns about controlling costs are, urge the Council Members to look at finances first, and to consider the ideas that come from the citizens.  There are many ways to get involved here, from calling the Council members, to writing the Mayor, to writing a letter to the editor. 

We need to attend County Board meetings.  This is our county too, and even though we're tucked away in the corner, we still have a voice.  If anyone is able to go to the County Board meeting this evening, 3/29/10, please post your input here.

If anyone has ideas about our blog, please don't hesitate to make those suggestions.  We want to make this available to everyone who is interested, and make this your place to connect too.

I am in the process of writing an article describing our group and what we are hoping to accomplish.  This article will be in the Tri-County News.   I am also hoping to get someone from the Tri-County News to cover our next meeting.
